Oxford
I had a great time in Oxford at the weekend.
I arrived in Headington, where Richard lives, about 19:30, later than planned as the coach got stuck in traffic.
He made me a gorgeous dinner of pasta with a blue cheese sauce and spinach. Originally, we were going to go the disco night at the ice rink but we never made it.
On Saturday Richard took me around the city centre. Oxford is very beautiful with many old and stoic buildings. The problem with Oxford is that the centre isn't very big and everyone seems to try to enter it. It was difficult finding somewhere to eat and it was as busy as Oxford Street in London gets on a Saturday (hence the name???)
We had lunch in the pub by the river. There water reflected the light beautifully. We were thus surprised when it was raining when we left. It was sunny. We walked around the park and then went into the centre to look in the shops.
Afterwards, we got on the wrong bus home and had to walk back from the edge of town. We then got into the car and Richard showed me the science park he works in, and the then took me to the gigantic Sainsbury's he goes to.
We bought some nibbles and wine, before heading back into town. We went to Raoul's cocktail bar. We had some lush mojitos and then went to a party at Richard's friend Lluis' place.
Everyone was very friendly, and I hit it off with Kirsty, Richard's stoned hippie friend and Lluis, the Spanish gay one (typical, eh?) but I felt really weirded out so we left after only a few hours. I'm not used to not knowing anyone at a party and wanted to leave. Fortunately, R was very obliging about it. We didn't get to sleep for a few hours after anyway...
Sunday we were pretty hungover. In retrospect a pint of Sangria is not a good idea. Richard made me some scrambled eggs then sent me back to bed while he cleaned the house.
I left Oxford far too late and the journey back to London was very unpleasant as I had to sit in the flip up seats by the loo on the bus.
I made it home, a bit cranky and tired but satisfied that I'd had a wonderful weekend.
