Dammit
I saw it coming then
Also, when they decided to get flowers for reception and they bought white lilies. I told them all it was a very bad omen and bad karma as they symbolise death.
So at 5pm on Friday I was informed that due to the difficult times in the media industry I am being made redundant and would not be expected to work my notice period. I will be paid for the whole of August, plus the holiday days I am still owed (which I believe are 9.)
Initially I didn't tell anyone except for the other receptionist, as I thought it was rather important she know!
I went out for drinks with work afterwards as planned, and I started telling the people I wanted to know one by one. It was hard saying good-bye, and it was really annoying that I was given such short notice because there were people I wanted to say good-bye to that had already gone for the weekend.
I got really, really wasted (people bought me lots of drinks)but it's what I needed. I also realise who my real friends were at work, and that some people I thought were my mates clearly aren't.
At least I will be able to sign on the dole (eeek!) and my managers and the MD all said they would give me good references. I have a British Passport now, too, which will make job hunting a bit easier.
I learned a lot, and made a great deal of friends who I will keep in touch with.
And...the weather is supposed to be great in the next week so I will be able to take advantage of it all!
