Defiance

I walked home last night from Soho to Holloway. It took 1hr 25 minutes, and I had to go past Russell Square/Tavistock Square area, which was sealed off. Strangely, some restaurants and bars were open and people were dining on the street and chatting away merrily.

King's Cross was more eerie and we had to walk around a few police lines and many reporters. There were people misguidedly waiting at bus stops for buses that weren't going to come.

The skies opened when I got to Holloway but it seemed like a little concern in exchange for being safe.

I checked to see if the Office was going to be open today and it was. We didn't HAVE to come in, but it was a matter of showing Them (whom ever they are) that we will not be scared into hiding.

This is our city and we will not fear living in it.

Most of us have made it to work today with the exception of a few cheeky bastards (including one of my runners who I had to give a bullocking to via text message for not telling me first.)

I couldn't take my normal route to work. I usually take the Piccadilly line but as that is were the worst blast was, it will be shut for a while.

I took the Victoria line from Finsbury Park. I was expecting it to be mayhem as it should be taking all it's usual passengers (it's always chock-a-block) plus all the Piccadilly line passangers. It was relatively empty. The first train to come down had only a few passengers in it and we all got seats.

Metro the free daily public transport paper, was all about the bombings, which was a bit disquieting as you are reading it on the tube.

I caught the Bakerloo line from Oxford Circus to Piccadilly Circus and that too wasn't too full.

As I walked up Brewer Street to work, there was less traffic than usual, and as I walked past Fresh&Wild...I ran into my ex-manager Raouf who was jolly as always and beaming with the news that he had just had a baby girl three weeks ago. So there was a little silver lining to all this, a happy reunion.

We will survive. Even if it happens again, we will be ok.
