What Are The Tories Thinking?
I live in Holloway, in the London Borough of Islington. It's the smallest geographical but most densely populated constituency in the UK.
It has been a Labour sure-thing for decades. In the last election the Liberal Democrats came in second place, and then the Tories.
From what I can tell from walking around-and I've lived there for two years now-is that many people in the area are of Greek or Turkish background. There is also an Irish influence in the area. There seem to be quite a bit of Central Americans, and many people of non-UK decent about. Basically, first and second generation immigrants.
My neighbours are all Greek. One of my flatmates is Italian. One of the guys downstairs is Kiwi. The school next door could be the poster-child for multiculturalism.
So the Tories decided that the poster they need to stick in Holloway is:
"It's not racist to impose limits on immigration ... are you thinking
what we're thinking?"
I suppose they don't want the North Islington vote? Have they been reading "How to Make Enemies and Alienate People?" Are they suggesting that racism is acceptable?
From what I can make of is that they are a load of idiots who didn't bother to do any market research or they know they're not going to win the constituency so they aren't really bothering. Or they're just plain idiots.
